The county town of Somerset which lies on the banks of the River Tone, Taunton is home to over 60,000 inhabitants.
Surrounded on three sides by stunning ranges of hills in an area known as The Vale of Taunton, the town is an attractive location for ramblers. The town is home to a number of important businesses - the head office of Debenhams makes its home in Taunton, for instance - and, as such, has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.
As with other towns in the region, Taunton has long been associated with the manufacture of cider. It is also home to the Somerset County cricket team.
At present Taunton is undergoing a range of regeneration projects that aim to create literally thousands of new homes and large new commercial and retail areas over the next decade.
